Sami Hermez and Giulia El Dardiry, members of the Beirut School of critical security studies, an ACSS working group, have curated a colloquy around Critical Security and Anthropology from the Middle East in the “Cultural Anthropology” journal. This collection of essays emerged from a workshop, which was held in Beirut in Sep 2018 and supported by the ACSS, is useful as a way to think of the future of critical security studies, especially as it relates to the Middle East region. The essays follow the lives of revolutionary youth, doctors, commodity traders, refugees, and spies to examine their experiences of (in)security.
