The American University of Beirut (AUB) invites applications and nominations for the position of Provost. Reporting to the President, the Provost is the chief academic officer of the university, responsible for setting institutional academic and research priorities that advance the mission of the university. The Provost works closely with the President, Deans, associate provost(s), and other senior administrators to develop and implement the university’s longterm academic and budgetary planning and management strategies. Initiating and supporting diverse activities, the provost seeks input from faculty, students, staff, and alumni to ensure meaningful engagement in fulfilling strategic goals. The Provost also oversees the administration of the university's academic support units and its interfaculty research centers and teaching units.
Leading candidates will have earned a doctorate from an accredited university and have a demonstrated record of distinguished research/scholarship and teaching commensurate with the appointment to the rank of tenured full professor. They are experienced academic leaders with an established track record of success in managing a complex academic organization with strong interpersonal skills. They have successful experience living and working in an international setting, including sufficient familiarity with the Middle East and Lebanon. Demonstrated successful experience in academic strategic planning, fiscal management, resource allocation, accreditation and supervision of personnel is required as well as readiness to address issues of academic quality, expectations for faculty, and strengthening of research activities.
