The new Board of Trustees of the Arab Council for the Social Sciences held a meeting on March 29, 2023 via “zoom”. This meeting was attended by all members of the Board (including the six members whose term is continuing and the six that have been newly elected) as well as ACSS staff, and the Council’s lawyer, Mtre. Ziad Ghorly.

The meeting was dedicated to appointing a new chairperson for the Board of Trustees, a vice-chair, a treasurer and a secretary, the distribution of roles among the members, and the formation of sub-committees. The meeting concluded with the appointment of:

- Dr. Elizabeth Suzanne Kassab, Chair of the Board of Trustees

- Dr. Abaher El-Sakka, Vice-chair

- Dr. Mary Kawar, Treasurer

- Dr. Fadma Ait Mous, Secretary

On March 9 and 10, 2023 the members of the General Assembly of the Arab Council for the Social Sciences elected electronically six members of the Board of Trustees, three of whom were new and three were re-elected, as they had the right to run for a second term.

Dr. Elizabeth Suzanne Kassab, a Professor of Philosophy at the Doha Institute, Qatar, takes on the role of Chair of the Board of Trustees, succeeding Dr. Mohammed Bamyeh who, along with the outgoing members, had a significant impact over the past four years in advancing the mission, objectives and strategy of the Arab Council for the Social Sciences in supporting researchers and the production of knowledge in the social sciences and humanities in/on the Arab region.

With its new Board of Trustees, the Council will continue its work to reach a larger audience from the Arab region and beyond, and to help in the production of new knowledge in the social and human sciences and make it accessible to researchers and academics from the region.
