Open Rank Faculty Position in International Affairs - American University of Beirut

09/29/2014

The Public Policy and International Affairs (PPIA) graduate program in the Division of University Interdisciplinary Programs of the American University of Beirut (AUB) seeks applications for a faculty position in international affairs at all ranks. All areas of research will be considered, but there is a preference for those related to International Diplomacy, International/Global Policy, or Global History/Governance.

Candidates should have research interests in and knowledge applicable to the Middle East region. Practical or relevant professional experience a plus. The PIAA program seeks to fill an important need in the region, namely to build capacity in public policy and international affairs while also linking this capacity building with the production and translation of knowledge in these fields. Given the current crisis in the international economic system and the unstable regional context, the program has exciting potential to use this natural, unique "laboratory" to open up spaces to explore national and international policy-processes, interests and stakeholders. The program would also build on the experience, research and increasing renown of The Issam Fares Institute for Public Policy and International Affairs (IFI) [http://www.aub.edu.lb/ifi/Pages/index.aspx]. IFI's rich experience, networks, and work on issues related to public policy and international affairs in the Arab world will constitute a major resource to the program's course development and student research. The proposed graduate program in PPIA further aims to build on AUB's distinguished history, its role as the pre-eminent liberal arts institution in the region, and its reputation for producing leaders and helping to shape policy debates in the region. Located in Beirut, AUB also affords its students, researchers and faculty the freedom of thought that is denied to many peer institutions in other parts of the region.

Applicants should have a PhD degree in a relevant field by August 2015; and demonstrate excellence in research and teaching, and a commitment to university service. The successful candidate will be expected to teach core international affairs courses at the MA level. The review of applications will begin October 31, 2014, and the process will continue until the position is filled. The starting date for this position is September 2015. Applications for one or two year visiting professor positions may also be considered.

Applications should include a cover letter; a statement covering research, teaching and service; evidence of effective teaching (such as sample course syllabi); CV and a writing sample. Junior faculty applicants should arrange for three letters of reference to be directly sent to us; while senior faculty applicants should submit the names and contacts of three referees. The complete application should be sent via email to as_dean@aub.edu.lb and addressed to Dr. Nesreen Ghaddar, Director of the Division of University Interdisciplinary Programs; American University of Beirut.

More information about this position, and application requirements, may be found at: http://www.aub.edu.lb/duip/Pages/Employment.aspx.

The American University of Beirut is an equal opportunity employer.
