The Alwaleed Bin Talal Center for American Studies and Research - Director
The Alwaleed Bin Talal Center for American Studies and Research (CASAR) at the American University of Beirut is searching for a new director to begin August 15, 2016. CASAR is an interdisciplinary research and academic center that offers an undergraduate minor and a new MA in Transnational American Studies. CASAR hosts visiting lecturers and organizes an international, bi-annual conference. CASAR has a generous endowment from the Alwaleed Foundation and has a mission to increase understanding of America in the Arab world.
The new director should have an established record of academic excellence commensurate with the rank of Associate or Full professor. Preferred qualifications include: a history of engagement with the discipline of American Studies, experience with program development and academic administration, a teaching and research profile at the cutting edge of transnational American Studies. Degree field is open, although the successful candidate will need to be jointly appointed in a department within the Faculty of Arts and Sciences.

The Alwaleed Bin Talal Center for American Studies and Research - Faculty Position
The Alwaleed Bin Talal Center for American Studies and Research (CASAR) at the American University of Beirut is seeking to appoint an Americanist from any social science discipline or humanities discipline, starting September 1, 2016 at the rank of Assistant Professor.
CASAR is particularly interested in a scholar whose research and interests engage the fields of transnational American Studies and can contribute to the Center’s MA program in Transnational American Studies, in addition to an existing minor program in American Studies. CASAR hopes to attract a candidate who can teach “Introduction to American Studies” at the undergraduate level and courses related to transnational American Studies at the graduate level.
The appointment is for an initial period of four years. The salary is competitive but depends upon qualifications. The usual teaching load is not more than 15 credits per year. The language of instruction is English. The hire will have joint appointment with a department in the Faculty of Arts and Sciences.
