About AMENAH
A research team in the Faculty of Health Sciences at the American University of Beirut is implementing a community- based participatory research (CBPR) study with adolescent refugee girls in Bekaa, Lebanon. The goal of the study, AMENAH, is to enhance adolescent girls’ life skills and sense of safety in their families, schools, and community, and to mitigate the social determinants of early marriage. With three-year funding from the International Development Research Centre-Canada (IDRC), AMENAH will be expanded in scope and established as one of the first longitudinal studies of adolescent girls in a displacement setting in the Arab region.
The Faculty of Health Sciences at the American University of Beirut is seeking a full-time postdoctoral fellow with a background in behavioral or social sciences to manage the implementation of all aspects of the AMENAH study including design, community engagement and implementation, and evaluation. The postdoctoral follow will gain experience in implementation research and will be mentored by the principal investigators of the study as well as members of the multidisciplinary research team. The contract is for one year with possibility ofrenewal.
Responsibilities
- Assist in the development of study methodology and evaluation design
- Review and synthesize scientific evidence to support informed decision-making by the research team
- Manage the execution and monitoring of the implementation plan
- Ensure the continuity of work and report back to the research team on a regular basis
- Develop relevant training materials and protocols
- Conduct data analysis and assist in the preparation of conference presentations and manuscripts
- Contribute to proposal writing andfund-raising
Qualifications
- A doctoral degree in public health (PhD or DrPH) or a social science discipline
- Demonstrated proficiency in analytical, quantitative, and qualitative research skills
- Experience in implementation science/research
- Ability to work independently and to anticipate/respond to challenges that mayarise
- High level of interest in research with adolescents and refugee populations, and sensitivity to gender inequity
- Excellent writing skills; publication track record is a plus
- Proficiency in Arabic and knowledge of the context
- Excellent verbal communication skills
- Organizational and time-management skills are a must
- The position requires willingness to make frequent travel to West Bekaa (one hour drive from Beirut)
