The Department of International Studies at the American University of Sharjah invites applications for a 5-month or 10-month paid visiting scholar position during the academic year of 2018-2019. The University seeks an early career, post-doctoral, or pre-doctoral scholar in the social science and humanities fields who is interested in studying the social, cultural, economic, and political ties between China and the Arabian Gulf. Scholars from Chinese universities are especially encouraged to apply.

 

American University of Sharjah is a not-for-profit, independent, coeducational institution of higher education formed on American models but thoroughly grounded in Arab culture. Located in University City, Sharjah, United Arab Emirates (about 15 km from Dubai), AUS offers undergraduate and graduate degree programs to more than 5,000 students from more than 95 nations. The UAE is a highly diversified, technologically advanced and secure country with an excellent reputation for tourism, business, and engineering.

 

This visiting scholar position is supported by a research grant received by Dr. Yuting Wang. The successful candidate can choose either a 5-month option with flexible starting date, or a 10-month option starting in September 2018. The visiting scholar receives a monthly stipend of 2,500 USD for 5 months, or 1,250 USD for the 10-month duration option. This stipend does not cover travel, housing, and other expenditures.
