The Refugees are Migrants: Refugee Mobility, Recognition and Rights (REF-MIG) Project at the Oxford Department of International Development is looking for a research assistant to help with field interviews in Lebanon.
The project is led by the Principal Investigator (PI), Dr Cathryn Costello.
The researcher will work collaboratively with the postdoctoral research officer, Dr Derya Ozkul, to complete the field-based research in Beirut, Mount Lebanon and possibly in Beqaa. The fieldwork will include conducting in-depth interviews together with Dr Ozkul.
The post is for the duration of 26 July – 12 September 2019. The timeframe may include evenings and weekends, depending on interviewees’ availability. In total, the aim is to conduct 20 interviews with officials at Ministries and Municipalities and 30-40 interviews mainly with Syrian and Sudanese refugees. Each interview is expected to take place for 60-90 minutes. All transportation expenses will be covered.
Applicants must have:

Excellent knowledge of both Arabic and English;

Knowledge of the political system and current migration-related issues in Lebanon;

Excellent qualitative research skills, in particular in conducting fieldwork and interviews.
Students in law, politics, international relations, sociology, anthropology or similar disciplines would be preferred.
Depending on the research assistant’s academic qualifications, there can be opportunities to co-author some publications with the PI and/or the postdoctoral research officer.
